The Brooklyn Nets did their part off the court to make sure families in need can be warm this winter.
The team worked in conjunction with the Salvation Army to organize a coat giveaway.
A large part of the giveaway was organized by star point guard D’angelo Russell, who used his platform to collect the coats. Fans were enticed into donating coats with a chance to meet Russell following a game earlier this month.
The coats then made their way to the Salvation Army Center in Brownsville.
Recipients walked away not only with a free coat, but a memorable encounter with one of the league’s bright young stars.
After the giveaway, Russell met with dozens of kids at the gym – he even coached two in a game of pickup basketball.
