In the rollout for Nike’s City Edition uniforms for the 2018-19 NBA season, the Brooklyn Nets have unveiled their City Edition jersey to act as a tribute to the late Brooklyn-bred rapper, Notorious B.I.G.
Created to honor loyal fans, “the Nike NBA City Edition uniforms represent insights and emotion from the court to the upper deck to the cities’ streets, in pursuit of a unique way to capture each team and its city in a way that respects the past and present of the clubs while also positioning them for the future,” Nike revealed in a December press release.
This season, Brooklyn’s jersey includes a fashion statement that trademarked the “Juicy” rapper– the OG Coogi sweater design.
Incorporated in the jersey’s detailing, the colors yellow, blue, red, orange and black are found along the trim of the otherwise black jersey.
Tweeted by reporter Anthony Puccio, fans were given a first look at the jersey on Wednesday (Oct. 24) morning, sparking some debate.

While some fans are loving the new look, others feel that Nike didn’t go hard enough with their design. Mostly, critics hoped for a bolder look to pay homage to the rap legend.
In other news, this is the second time this month fashion has nodded to Biggie. On Oct. 5, Versace restocked a throwback frame style iconic to the rapper’s image.
