Brooklyn still potential destination for talents like Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi Leonard

The Brooklyn Nets will potentially have money to sign two max players next summer, and Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports believes Brooklyn can at least secure free-agent meetings with stars such as Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler.

Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Jimmy Butler can all become unrestricted free agents after this season ends if they decline their player options for the 2019-20 season with their respective teams.

Nets general manager Sean Marks was an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs and not only has a great rapport with Kawhi Leonard, but also with Leonard’s uncle and advisor, Dennis Robertson. Brooklyn has 10 former Spurs employees in the organization as well.

The Toronto Raptors can offer Leonard almost $50 million more than any other team in 2019, including a fifth year. David Aldridge, previously of NBA.com and now with The Athletic, wrote back in July that he believes Leonard will give the Nets a fair hearing during free agency.

When Jimmy Butler initially requested a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Nets were reportedly one of the teams he preferred to be traded to. Butler is now with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Kevin Durant has been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks if he decides to leave the Golden State Warriors after this season. There haven’t been any reports linking him to the Nets as of yet.
