Durant has called LeBron James’ media circus “toxic” and says he cannot understand why any top star would like to play on his team.
The comments effectively quash any rumours of the small forward moving to the Lakers.
Durant’s contract is up at the end of the season and there are strong reports that he could be about to leave the NBA Champions.
And NBA pundit Shannon Sharpe has dropped three surprise franchises into a conversation which hints at a shock move.
“If Kevin Durant were to leave… forget if he goes to the Lakers,” Sharpe told the Undisputed.
“He could go to Brooklyn [Nets], the [New York] Knicks, or DC [Washington Wizards].”
Sharpe was speaking about Klay Thompson’s recent jibe at James and claimed he would not be winning so many titles without Durant.
But it is Durant’s outburst which has been the talk of the town in California.
“So much hype comes from being around LeBron from other people,” Durant said.
“He has so many fanboys in the media. Even the beat writers just fawn over him.
“I’m like, we’re playing basketball here, and it’s not even about basketball at certain points.
“So I get why anyone wouldn’t want to be in that environment because it’s toxic.
“Especially when the attention is bulls*** attention, fluff.”
But Lakers head coach Luke Walton has jumped to the defence of his star man.
“He is an amazing fellow, he is very generous, he has won multiple Championships with other superstars,” Walton said.
“Why wouldn’t you want to play with LeBron?”
