Nets, Barclays Center to host food bank for federal employees

Federal workers and their families who’ve shouldering the burden of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, will get some help from the Brooklyn Nets and Barclays Center Tuesday afternoon.

To help those impacted, Food Bank for New York City will activate a mobile food pantry at Barclays Center Tuesday to distribute food and essentials to approximately 500 families in the community who are being affected by the government shutdown, with the support of Stop & Shop’s resources and local staff.

In addition to food and essentials, families in attendance will also receive a special surprise gift from the Brooklyn Nets.

Food Bank staff will also be onsite to help connect federal workers with food pantries and soup kitchens in their own neighborhoods across the boroughs for ongoing emergency food and other support.

Food will be distributed between noon and 3 p.m. at the Barclays Center Atrium and the media is invited to cover the event.

The Nets and Barclays Center are owned by Mikhail Prokhorov.
