Tough setbacks yesterday on the gridiron in Chicago and on the ice in Detroit.

Cody Parkey’s 46-yard field goal attempt with 10 seconds left hit the left upright that would have won the game for Chicago; it was the fifth time this season that a Parkey kick hit an upright.


Michal Kempny’s goal with 3:52 left lifted the visiting Washington Capitals past the Red Wings last night, 3-2. Detroit hosts the Montreal Canadiens at Little Caesars Arena tomorrow evening.

Dylan Strome scored in the second minute of the third period to break a 3-3 tie and propel the Blackhawks to a 5-3 victory over the Penguins in Pittsburgh last night. Chicago welcomes the Calgary Flames to the United Center this evening.


D’Angelo Russell’s 28-point performance helped the visiting Brooklyn Nets down the Bulls at the United Center yesterday, 117-100. Chicago plays the Trail Blazers in Portland on Wednesday evening.

The Detroit Pistons are home to the San Antonio Spurs at Little Caesars Arena tonight.


In state major-college basketball last night, Michigan defeated Indiana, 74-63.
